Over the weekend I had a lot of pictures to offload, and people standing around waiting. So I had a chance to notice how terrible slow it was. I decided that maybe I should take the plunge and upgrade to 10gigabit ethernet. But, looking at what I already have, I suddenly realized that the onboard ethernet in my server is 100megabit. Well, so much for the 10 gigabit plan. Let's go to 1 gigabit first, and see what happens. At first blush, things are much faster. I won't know for sure until I time a 16GB photo transfer. But I have every reason to believe that my disks will now be the bottleneck.
Now I want to wander around town looking at all of the fire hydrants.
